Fun Fact:

Will Shortz, The New York Times crossword editor, made up his own college major: enigmatology, or the scientific study of puzzles. He’s the only person known to hold such a degree.

After that unique start at Indiana University, Shortz completed a law degree from the University of Virginia. But his passion for puzzles soon won out over the law.

He founded major competitions, including the American Crossword Puzzle Tournament in 1978 and two world competitions.

He also creates some of the most diabolic sudoku puzzles.
